Sundowns Potential CAFCL Opponents Confirmed
Mamelodi Sundowns have found out which three teams they can potentially face in the CAF Champions League quarter-finals.
On Sunday evening, the group stages of the competition were finalised, when Raja Casablanca beat ES Setif 1-0, securing the top spot in Group B.
As a consequence, Setif are one of the teams that Masandawana could face, with the four group winners being paired against one of the three runners-up from the other groups – they can’t face the team that finished second in their own group (Al Ahly).
The other two potential opponents are Belouizdad, who finished second in Group C behind ES Tunis, losing just one of their five games, or Petro de Luanda, who ended up in second in Group D. The latter lost 5-1 to Wydad Casablanca on Saturday, which was their only defeat in the group.
Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly, meanwhile, will have to expect a tougher draw, with either Raja Casablanca, Wydad Casablanca or ES Tunis meeting the reigning CAF Champions League champions in the quarter-final.
