Sekhukhune Set For 2022/23 Relocation

Sekhukhune United are set to move their home games away from Ellis Park in Johannesburg next season, iDiski Times has learnt.

The club which has been based in Gauteng in their debut DStv Premiership season has been playing their home games at Ellis Park but is now set for a switch to Limpopo.

With Baroka being relegated to the GladAfrica Championship, the New Peter Mokaba Stadium will be made available as their new home for the 2022/23 season, as reported in iDiski Times Edition 57.

Along with Marumo Gallants, they will be the only representative in the South African top-flight from the province, with Sekhukhune being one of the five districts within Limpopo.

The club’s long-term vision has always been to bring football to the origins of its owners but like several other clubs in the league, has needed to set up its bases in Gauteng with players more attracted to the idea of the more affluent cities of South Africa.

And while their home ground may be changing, their main office base will remain in Kempton Park while their training grounds are also set to remain in Johannesburg for the upcoming season.

In what could be a masterstroke for the club to attract a new fanbase – after playing most of the previous campaign behind closed doors due to the pandemic – they will be hoping the decision, along with the squad rebuild under new head coach Kaitano Tembo yields the results towards their ambitions.
