Jwaneng Galaxy head coach Morena Ramoreboli has enjoyed an unbeaten first half of the 2022/23 Botswana Premier League season but says it’s premature to entertain title talks.
The Free State-born coach who rose to prominence with Maluit FET College in the Nedbank Nedbank Cup a decade ago has been making massive strides with the Botswanan club.
After leading them to their maiden CAF Champions League group stage qualification, their league form suffered, as they finished in third place, but with lessons learned and renewed vigor, they are challenging reigning champions Gaborone United this time around.
Jwaneng are currently in second place, with 11 wins and four draws in the opening 15 games with a league-high of 38 goals scored.
“A team that wins the championship is a consistent team, we have proven in the first round that we are consistent, and going into the second round, we need the same, we’re halfway,” Ramoreboli told iDiski Times.
“When you make simple statistics, if you have 37 points now and manage to get another 37, it means you have about 74… which can give you a chance of being a title winner but at the moment, let’s be honest, it’s too early to talk about that.”
Having previously been touted to be pushed out of the club with suggestions of not holding complete faith of the hierarchy last season, it’s been a dramatic change in fortunes for the coach who lead South Africa to the 2021 COSAFA Cup title.
“In any environment, where one is working, it won’t be everyone who appreciates what you’re doing, but it doesn’t give anyone a right to stop working, in any environment, there will always be darkness before light that needs you to push on up until you achieve your goals,” he admitted about the situation.
“I’ve not done anything special, I’m just persistent and committed to the cause, and what’s happening now is the result of patience and willingness to go the extra mile.
“The team was in a rebuilding phase, some were expecting instant results, while others were honest to say it’s a new team will less quality than that won the league, we need to be patient with what we’re building.”
Ramoreboli went on to add the struggles they endured in Africa’s elite club competition and the domestic competitions after a grueling traveling period and scheduling of fixtures has toughened them up for the challenges of the current campaign.
“We didn’t do well in the group stages even though it was a good achievement, it showed the team’s quality lacked in certain areas but it gave most of the players who are playing now, the experience, and understanding of how we should do things,” he added.

“The CAF Champions League added so many games, it’s as if you are having two full domestic seasons in one, you play over 60 games. It’s good mileage for any team trying to build something.”
Galaxy continue their assault for the league title on Sunday when they travel to the Serowe Sports Complex to face Morupule Wanderers at 18h00.
