Rooney hits out at Ronaldo for “unacceptable behaviour”

Former Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney has hit out at his former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo saying his recent behaviour is unacceptable. 

The 37-year-old has struggled for form this season after a failed move away from Manchester United.

Recently, he made the headlines for refusing to be introduced as a late substitute. Instead, he stormed down the tunnel during the Red Devils’ English Premier League fixture against Tottenham.

RONALDO WAS DROPPED

Ironically, United played their best game of the season as they beat Tottenham 2-0 away from home on that particular day.

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag dropped the Portuguese star the following matchday against Chelsea. The game ended in a 1-1 draw.

He later returned to the team after ironing out issues with the United boss. Nonetheless, Rooney, who is managing DC United in the United States, has called out his former teammate. 

Rooney said his former did not need any distractions as they look to rebuild their squad. He added that Ronaldo should humble himself and understand that the coach is in charge and will make his own decisions.

THE TWO BEST PLAYERS

Responding to talkSPORT on whether United were better with Ronaldo or not, he said: “No, I don’t think so. He and Messi are arguably the two best players of all time, and you can go either way with that, whatever way you decide. 

“But I just think the things he has done from the start of the season are not acceptable for Manchester United. I have seen Roy Keane defending him. Roy wouldn’t accept that.

“It’s a distraction that Manchester United don’t need at the minute. For Cristiano, just get your head down and work and be ready to play when the manager needs you. If he does that, he will be an asset. If he doesn’t, he will become an unwanted distraction.”
