Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo is in the club’s plans for the new season and he’s “not for sale”.

The Portuguese frontman will miss the Red Devils’ pre-season tour to Thailand due to “personal issues” and Ten Hag does not know whether Ronaldo will join them later in the tour.

Ten Hag charges will face Liverpool in Thailand on Tuesday before jetting off to Australia.

In recent weeks, it has been reported that the 37-year-old wants to leave United amid continued speculation linking him with a move to Chelsea.

“I had a good talk. That is between Cristiano and me, what I can confirm is we had a really good conversation together.

“He is not with us due to personal issues. We are planning with Cristiano Ronaldo for this season. That is it,” said the new man in charge, Ten Hag.

Ronaldo returned to Old Trafford the last term after stints with Real Madrid and Juventus respectively.

“I am looking forward to working with him. Cristiano is not for sale. He is in our plans. We want success together,” he added.

Meanwhile, the former Ajax manager announced that Harry Maguire will continue to be the captain of the club going into the new season.

“Harry Maguire will be captain,” he said.

“He has been captain for more than a year. He has achieved a lot of success. I have no doubts about this issue.”

Ten Hag emphasised that United will only sign players he believes will fit into his intended style of play.

“We want to add the right players. We have a really good squad, we are working to develop our way of playing and the opportunity is there and we will strike,” he explained.

So far, the side has acquired the services of defender Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord.
