Marcos Alonso, a former colleague of Jose Riveiro from his time at Celta Vigo, believes the Spaniard will bring silverware to Orlando Pirates, if given time.
Alonso works as Celta Vigo youth coach and Club International Academies Coordinator and knows Riveiro from his time in the youth structures of the LaLiga side.
Alonso spoke to iDiski Times writer Lorenz Köhler in edition 83 of the newspaper, which you can read for free on our website), insisting Riveiro will prove he is good enough to bring trophies to Mayfair.
“I only have to say all the best to him, the team is in good hands and he only needs time to demonstrate how good he really is,” Alonso told this publication.
“I know he’s in one of the top teams in South Africa Premier league, it’s going to be very competitive. It’s probably very different from what he’s used to in Finland but he has enough resources, enough tools to make a good job here.”
“I know he’s trying to be offensive and play attractive football, be protagonists with the ball and the results now have been good but the season is long.
“There will probably be bad moments but I think he’s going to be loyal to his style and probably make a good career with a few trophies and the championship will probably be his main goal.”
Riveiro has already won the MTN8 trophy with the Buccaneers this season and they are currently sitting in fifth position on the DStv Premiership log, with 19 points from 13 matches, nine points behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns who have a game in hand.
