New Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro started with three points, as the Buccaneers beat Swallows 1-0 at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

There were also a victory for Richards Bay, while points were shared in the third game on Saturday afternoon.

Orlando Pirates 1-0 Swallows

It was Pirates who dominated from the kickoff, and Bienvenu Eva Nga had a good chance in the seventh minute but blasted over.

But Eva Nga wasn’t to be denied in the 10th minute, Kabelo Dlamini setting up the debutant, who did well to strike home.

Nkosinathi Sibisi almost made it a second goal from a debutant in the 16th minute, but his first-time shot went straight at Thakasani Mbanjwa.

Pirates continued their domination but shots were limited, though Dlamini went close as he shot across goal in the 34th minute.

1-0 at the break, Swallows finally had a chance at goal three minutes into the second half, but Tshidiso Patjie’s effort went wide of Richards Ofori’s goal.

Deon Hotto missed a chance in the 51st minute, while Ofori was finally called into action five minutes later as he saved from Lindokuhle Mtshali’s shot.

Eva Nga went wide in the 64th minute, while Swallows thought they should have had a penalty in the 71st minute, after a foul by Sibisi on Patjie in the box.

It was a different Swallows in the second half, and Pirates may have been regretting all the chances missed in the first 45, Patjie forcing Ofori into a save in the 79th minute.

But Pirates were able to hold on for the victory to give Riveiro a win in his first game in charge.

Golden Arrows 0-2 Richards Bay

Richards Bay started life in the top flight with a good win against KZN neighbours Golden Arrows, as they won 2-0 at the Princess Magogo Stadium.

After an open first 30 minutes, it was the DStv Premiership debutants who took the lead, Abel Mabaso plying in Somila Ntsundwana, who was on hand to make it 1-0 to Bay.

That goal was what separated the teams at  half-time.

Bay were 2-0 up in the 71st minutes Mabaso went from provider to scorer to extend the lead.

A good win for the new KZN top flight team.

Marumo Gallants 0-0 Stellenbosch

Gallants and Stellenbosch couldn’t be separated at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, as it ended goalless in Limpopo.

It was the visitors who looked more threatening in the first half, but while they made a number of entries into the final third, they lacked the final product. At the break it was goalless.

The second half saw the home team get more into the game, with Sage Stephens making some good saves for Stellies.

But neither side were able to find a winner, as it ended 0-0
