Two-time Africa Cup of Nations winning coach Herve Renard has responded to speculation that he will succeed Roberto Martinez as the new Belgium head coach.

Renard left Morocco for Saudi Arabia after the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations with a fearsome reputation on the African continent.

Having won the AFCON with Zambia and Ivory Coast, his stock rose even further as they shocked eventual winners Argentina with a 2-1 win in their 2022 FIFA World Cup opener.

Their enterprising style of play earned him widespread plaudits and subsequently, his name has been bandied about as the potential new coach for the Red Devils.

But he took to social media on Thursday afternoon to dispel the notion that he applied to succeed the Spaniard – who has since been appointed as the new Portugal boss.

“The news suggesting I presented a proposal to coach the Belgium National team is totally false,” Renard wrote via his official Twitter account.

Thierry Henry has been another touted as a potential replacement, although reports in Belgian media have stated their Football Association aren’t open on the idea as yet.

Renard still holds a running contract with the Asian nation until 2027 which will run for the next two editions for the AFC Asian Cup and the World Cup set to be hosted by USA and Canada.
