In the latest edition of iDiskiTimes, Radebe explained the new role to Lorenz Köhler and how he hopes to give back to African and South African football in particular.
“I think let me say it’s a privilege, especially, as an ex-player wanting to give back into football, in a bigger stage where we’ve seen, we want to develop,” Radebe told iDiski Times.
“Obviously, the aim is to get involved with, for me it was local organisations, which is our own South African Football Association, just to give back. But I mean, to have an opportunity to serve at CAF, in the Technical and Development Committee, I mean, it’s absolutely, for me, it’s absolutely big. And I think in terms of what we as ex-players experienced through FIFA, through CAF, I think it means a lot to us in terms of the development of the game in Africa as a whole.
“Being involved with people like Geremi Njitap, ex-players like that, it shows that at least there’s progress in terms of ex-players, being involved in the scope where we’re looking at how we can develop football, not looking at men’s football [only], but women’s football as well, which I think it serves… it’s a big element in this.
“I’m quite excited to get involved, we had our first meeting already, and it’s been great. There’s Morocco, the Afcon, which I’m looking forward to, to be working in the technical area, which is great, because, at least the young players or the players that are playing currently, they’ve gotten that opportunity as well, especially from South Africa, which it’s been difficult. They have a chance to come and serve, even in football great organisations, not just local, but in the continent, which is big.”
