Former Mpumalanga traffic cop Mashack Masenjwa received a five-year prison term after being found guilty of demanding a R100 bribe.

Masenjwa was detained in 2019 after unknowingly asking two undercover agents for a bride.

Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi, a spokesperson for the Mpumalanga Hawks, said that the organisation learned about a traffic officer taking bribes along the N4 back in 2019.

“On the day in question, the agent was driving next to Wonderfontein and was stopped by a traffic official who demanded a bribe of R100. The bribe was given to the agent and the transaction was recorded,” said Sekgotodi.

Masenjwa was found guilty of corruption on Wednesday last week.
