The police recovered the body of a 27-year-old male six days after he drowned in the Nkomazi River in Tongat, Mpumalanga.
POLICE SPOTTED THE BODY IN THE RIVER
It is reported that the victim and his friend allegedly ran from an angry mob in Tonga when they ended up in the Nkomzi River. The police said the man drowned in the Nokomazi river and was only recovered on Wednesday morning, 22 March 2023,

MAN DROWNED IN THE NKOMAZI RIVER
Police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala reported that the victim and his friend allegedly tried to save their lives from an angry mob in Tonga when they ran into the Nkomazi River.
One of the two victims is said to have managed to swim to shore successfully, but his friend disappeared in the heavy current of the Nkomazi River on Friday, 17 March 2023.

POLICE WARN COMMUNITY AGAINST MOB JUSTICE
His body was spotted in the Nkomazi River by the Police’s Airwing six days after he drowned. He was found about five kilometres from the scene where he reportedly drowned.
Mohlala said the police are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death that led to the attack and those involved.

The Mpumalanga Acting Provincial Police Commissioner, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, reiterated that the community should not take the law into their own hands.

He said if there are suspicions of a crime committed, the community must report it to the police. He said they should utilise the services of the police rather than making reckless decisions that might lead to death.
