PLK City Make Makola & Mhlongo Decision

Newly promoted side Polokwane City have made a shock u-turn and decided to part ways with veterans Mpho Makola and Joseph Mhlongo.

Makola joined City in March on a short-term deal after leaving Cape Town City in January.

When ‘Bibo’ arrived the club was sitting third in the Motsepe Foundation Championship standings, with hope of clinching automatic promotion.

The Limpopo-based side secured promotion to the DStv Premiership on the last day of the season after overtaking both Cape Town Spurs and Casric Stars.

Meanwhile, Joseph Mhlongo who scored an important goal for City in their encounter against JDR Stars in the dying minutes of the game also won’t return to the side for 2023/24 season, iDiski Times has learnt.

The news come as a surprise after Polokwane City Chief Operations Officer (COO) Tincy Tema had told this publication that the veterans would stay with the club.

“We are going to keep them because of their experience,”Tema told iDiski Times in June when the club had already released over 10 of their players.

“Remember the players that we had last season, most of them they were still young and new in the professional set-up. Hence we brought in the likes of Makola to mentor them. We are happy with what they did and we are very grateful to them.”

Makola, 37, made eight appearances for Polokwane City, while Mhlongo has featured 11 times.
