Pitso Sends Clear Message After CAFCL Final Defeat

Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has sent a clear message to the leaders in African football, making sarcastic remarks about the “neutral venue” of the CAF Champions League final.
The South African and his side missed out on the chance to lift their third successive CAF Champions League title after going down 2-0 to Wydad Athletic Club at their home ground at the Stade Mohamed V in Morocco.
Mosimane’s side dominated most of the possession but Wydad scored the goals in front of an ecstatic home crowd, leaving Mosimane somewhat sarcastic in his post-match press conference
“We had our chances, Percy had his one-on-one with the goalkeeper. If he scored that, it would’ve been different,” he said after the match.
“[Mohamed] Sherif had a chance to score. If he scores, it’s different.
“What I’m happy about, we came here and we played football and in football, you can never say that the better team lost because the one that wins is the one that is a good team.
“But we came here to a neutral venue with 50-50 supporters sharing the stadium and that’s part of the football. I think everybody behind the decision got what he wanted.
“We move on.”
It was only Mosimane’s third-ever final defeat after losing to the now defunct Bidvest Wits in the 2016 MTN8 final and losing the Egyptian Super Cup to Tala’ea El Gaish on penalties in September 2021.
