Former Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has sent a message to his former player Percy Tau after he missed a crucial penalty in Bafana Bafana’s Africa Cup of Nations opening defeat.

Bafana dominated the first half in their 2-0 defeat to Mali, with Tau’s missed penalty widely seen as a game-deciding moment.

After the match, Tau admitted that it still hurts him but he’ll try to move on and be ready for the upcoming games against Namibia on Sunday and Tunisia, three days later.

Mosimane, who brought Tau to Egyptian giants Al Ahly and worked with him successfully for one year, has praised the Bafana vice-captain’s intent to show leadership before stating he troubled the Mali defence throughout the first half.

“Real men are not shy to apologise,” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

“We have to move on, and we can still qualify beyond the group stages.

“We have to play the same or better than the way we played in the first half.

“Beside the penalty you missed, your aggressive forward runs were threatening and gave Mali problems.”

Pitso Mosimane believes that Percy Tau can still do better than he did against Mali in the 2-0 loss and he believes that Percy Tau is still a good player and he can still contribute in the Bafana Bafana squad.

SuperSport TV commentator by the name of Baba Mthethwa also commented in his commentary that the penalty missed by Percy Tau is part of football and it happens everywhere in the Footballing world.
