Telecommunication giant Orange has donated an equivalent of R180,000 to World Cup-bound supporters for Senegal’s Teranga Lions.
Orange presented the donation after renewing its partnership with the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) on Tuesday.
The two parties signed the new four-year deal in Dakar after several years of collaboration, according to FSF website.
Orange CEO Sonatel Sekou Dramé and FSF president Augustin Senghor inked the new contract.
“Orange took advantage of this opportunity to provide a grant of 10,000,000 CFA francs to the 12th player, the Supporters Committee and five million CFA francs to the National Association of the Sports Press (ANPS),” FSF website reads.
Orange has since embarked on ‘On the path to the “Qatar 2022” World Cup’ campaign.
The campaign seeks to drum up support for the Teranga Lions.
Senghor said the partnership has helped propel the Lions of Teranga to greater heights.
He cited Senegal’s bagging of their first ever AFCON title at the delayed 2021 AFCON as the fruits of the agreement.
Senegal won the title after seeing off Egypt in the final of the delayed 2021 edition.
Senegal hope to transfer their impressive run to the World Cup in Qatar from next month.
The 2021 AFCON version took place in Cameroon from January to February this year.
Orange has also signed a five-year partnership contract with the Senegalese Professional Football League.
Senegal are in Group A at the World Cup alongside Netherlands, Qatar and Ecuador.
The Teranga Lions have some of the best players from the continental currently playing for top teams in Europe.
