Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahli Saudi clinched the Yelo League title with one game to spare after beating Al-Qadisiyah on Tuesday.
Al Ahli beat the 11th-placed side 1-0, with Ryad Boudebouz once again stepping up from the penalty spot.
The victory saw Al Ahli move to 71 points on the log, which was enough to secure the title after chasers Al Akhdood lost 3-2 to Al Sahel SC to stay on 65 points, which saw them dropping behind second-placed Al Hazem, who have 67 points.
However, with just one game to spare, Hazem cannot make up the four-points gap to Mosimane his men.
Mosimane’s side had already secured promotion two weeks ago, but have now also added the title of the Yelo League in another historic achievement for the South African tactician.
‘Jingles’ found Al Ahli in fifth place when he took over but after 18 wins, six draws and just three defeats he secured the Saudi First Division title.
It was Mosimane’s 19th career title, and his first outside of Africa. He won the SAA Super Eight and his first Nedbank Cup title with SuperSport United.
During his successful spell with Mamelodi Sundowns he won five Premier Soccer League titles, two more Nedbank Cups, two Telkom Knockouts, one CAF Champions League and one CAF Super Cup.
At Egyptian giants Al Ahly, he added another two CAFCL and two CAF Super Cup titles, as well as one Egyptian Cup.
However, there is talk that Al Ahli will not activate their option to extend his deal by another year, as they are understood to look to a new coach to lead them in the Saudi Pro League.
