Maritzburg United have officially confirmed the arrival of Fadlu Davids as new head coach after the departure of John Maduka.

Maduka and his technical staff of Simon Gopane and Ditheko Mototo were relieved of their duties on Thursday, with the writing being on wall following a string of poor results that saw the Team of Choice drop to the bottom of the table with just 11 points from 13 matches.

The club have now announced the return of Davids, who was already in charge of the club as head coach between March 2017 and December 2018.

Davids previously led Maritzburg to the highest position in the PSL when they finished in fourth place in the 2017/18 season. The club also reached their maiden cup final then, losing to Free State Stars in the Nedbank Cup.

The 41-year-old was last working as assistant coach to Josef Zinnbauer at Lokomotiv Moscow in Europe, but his stint was short-lived, with first Zinnbauer being sacked three games into David’s tenure before the whole technical team was relieved of their duties.
