Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Lazarous Kambole has once again returned to ZESCO United FC on a season-long loan.

Kambole was released by Chiefs following the 2021/22 season after spending two seasons at the club and scoring three goals.

The 29-year-old came into the country as a player known to score goals after a good run he had in the CAF Champions League.

After leaving Chiefs in July 2022, Tanzanian giants Young Africans signed him but he didn’t last long at Yanga and he was loaned out to his former club ZESCO United on a short-term deal in January.

And he hit the ground running, being back home and familiar with the club, scoring six goals to help ZESCOUnited to finish third on the standings.

ZESCO have now announced an extension of their initial six-months and will stay with the club for the 2023/24 season.

“ZESCO United have extended Lazarous Kambole’s loan deal to another season after the initial six months agreement with Tanzanian giants, Young Africans came to an end,” the club stated.

“Kambole who made a sensational return to United last season helped the club secure a top three finish in a campaign which proved agonizing for the 2020/21 Zambian league champions.”

With the AFCON fast approaching, this could be a good move for Kambole as he will get a chance to fight for a place in the final squad of the Chipolopolo national team.

In June, he made a return to the Zambia squad for the first time since 2019, featuring in a 3-0 defeat to Kuwait.

Meanwhile, ZESCO begin their quest to win a tenth league title on 19 August 19 with an away fixture against Napsa Stars.
