Ntuli Sets Sight On 100-Goal Club

AmaZulu striker Bongi Ntuli is determined to reach 100th goal in his career in the PSL.

Ntuli, in 237 league matches since 2011, has scored 63 league goals.

In all cup competitions, the burly striker has netted eight in 28 matches, three in the CAF Champions League one in the Confederation Cup.

In all, that equates to 75 goals in all competitions in 277 matches for Ntuli, which is 25 goals short of reaching the magic number.

Ntuli, who was the go-to-guy in the 2019/20 season for Usuthu where he scored 13 of the 20 goals AmaZulu scored, was given his official debut start in the PSL by Muhsin Ertugral on 18 February 2012 at Golden Arrows.

It was not a perfect entrance as Abafana Bes’Thende lost 2-1 against SuperSport United when he was 20, 10 months and 21 days old.

His first goal came against Orlando Pirates on 10 August 2012, scoring a tap-in to beat the late Senzo Meyiwa. A day he will surely never forget anytime soon, but it was not perfect also as Arrows lost 2-1 at Orlando Stadium.

Having seen Peter Shalulile net his 103rd goal when Mamelodi Sundowns, Ntuli’s former club, crushed a poor-looking Arrows at Lucas Moripe Stadium, Ntuli has the desire to score 100 goals in his career.

“I’ll do my best to reach 100 goals,” said Ntuli to iDiski Times.

“You can see the club has confidence in me and that encourages me a lot as a footballer.”

Ntuli, who has not scored this season for Usuthu, has a chance to increase his tally when AmaZulu host Richards Bay at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday (17:30).

Just like Ntuli, Usuthu has not scored a goal in these matches under new coach Pablo Franco Martin.

“Our defence has done well and what is missing is us scoring goals and helping the team win games,” said Ntuli.

“But it is not a pressure per se because the coach has been a good motivator to us and he said once you score one goal more floodgates will open for us.”

Usuthu is set to be without Junior Dion, who did not train with the club on Wednesday along with George Maluleka with a suspected injury, as both of them have not played in the first two league matches.
