Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Nkosingiphile Ngcobo believes he’s not played as much under coach Stuart Baxter this season because the great form of his competition in the Amakhosi squad.

Ngcobo, who was a regular last season and played an important role in Chiefs’ CAF Champions League run to the final, has only started five times this season and came in as a substitute on seven occasions.

Many are left wondering about his lack of game time after he’s featured 40 times for the Glamour Boys in 2021/22, but the 22-year-old has put that down to the competition for Chiefs attacking spots.

“Yeah, like I said, I never stopped learning, even though I don’t play that much, but I learn from the bench, I learn at training,” Ngcobo said when asked by iDiski Times journalist David Kappel about his current season.

“I think it’s just a matter of the guys that are playing, they’re doing very well. So it’s not easy to get into the team. So I think we have a very positive competition.

“I’m learning as I’m sitting on the bench, but whenever I get a chance, I make sure. And I am looking forward on getting more game time and make sure that I help the team.”

Ngcobo also stated the importance of finishing in second place on the log and qualify for CAF Champions League again.

“This season we haven’t played CAF Champions League, I think we know the feeling how great it is to be there,” he added

“So with our few games left we gonna make sure that we push and fight for that second spot and yeah, just positive energy and making sure that we collect maximal points.”

Chiefs are set to face SuperSport United in the DStv Premiership at FNB Stadium on Saturday, which will be Amakhosi’s first match where they will welcome their supporters back into the stadium.
