New Venue For Arrows-Chiefs Clash Announced

Lamontville Golden Arrows have moved their match against Kaizer Chiefs to the Moses Mabhida Stadium on 31 December when the season resumes post the FIFA World Cup, the club has announced.

The game was initially set to be played at Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu, the home venue of Arrows although the 2010 World Cup finals stadia is listed to the league as their alternatives.

iDiski Times reported a few weeks ago that Arrows were considering playing some of their big matches at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, but they were not in favour since it will suit Chiefs’ style of play as they are used to playing in big pitches.

They felt that to take Chiefs into the small venue in KwaMashu where the distances are small and tight would allow them to compete well and have higher chances of winning the game like last season.

It was the case when they pressed Chiefs up top with pressing traps to win 2-1 in April at Princess Magogo Stadium.  

Arrows initially felt as Chiefs is one of the most supported clubs in the country, getting the three points was more important than money, but it seems the latter affected their decision since it will be during the festive season.  

Whether Arrows have thrown away an advantage in getting the maximum points by taking the game to the Moses Mabhida Stadium, which is ironically also listed as one of Chiefs “home” venues as they are playing some of their games in Durban this season, remains to be seen.  

Arrows last played a home match at Moses Mabhida Stadium when they beat Chippa United  on 9 January 2021, with Lindokuhle Mtshali, now at Swallows FC, scoring the winner.
