National State of Disaster to end in April

By: Natasha Archary
Cooperative Governance Minister, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma said cabinet is looking to end the National State of Disaster by next week.
The Minister was addressing media on Tuesday, 29 March over cabinet’s approach to lifting regulations.
According to the Minister, the wearing of masks at indoor public spaces will still be in place for up to 30-days once restrictions end.
This is so there isn’t a “reckless and abrupt” end to the National State of Disaster.
The end to the disaster will mean an end to the R350 social relief grant. Decisions on all the conditions will be based on public comment which cabinet will need to allow 48-hours for.
President Cyril Ramaphosa will address the country on 5 April, to announce the end of the disaster.
The state of disaster is set to expire on 15 April, after being extended again in March. Initially set to end on 15 June 2020, cabinet decided to extend the state of disaster continually to curb the spread of the pandemic.
Now, as the world prepares to get back to normal, there may be indications that the Covid-19 pandemic doesn’t pose as big a threat as it once did.
