Motaung – We Understand The Pressures Coming From CAF

Kaizer Chiefs Marketing and Commercial Director Jessica Motaung has suggested they want to launch the Women’s Team when all the boxes are ticked.
Motaung has not hidden her desire for the excitement of launching a women’s team, while the process has notably been accelerated when the Confederation of African football stated teams will not be able to compete in CAF inter-club competitions with a women’s team.
While the deadline has been extended until next season, Motaung stated they are fully aware of the pressures but they want to make sure everything is in order to maintain the professionalism of their brand when it extends to the women’s sector of football.
“There’s a lot of work being done, we were close and getting even closer, we understand the importance of it,” Motaung said at Naturena Village.
“I was just at the roadshow for the FIFA Women’s World Cup trophy and it was wonderful to see how the game is touching young women and how many girls are participating in the clinics and school sports.
“So it’s a priority of ours, one wants to do it properly, we would have wanted to announce something earlier on but you know we’ve got to dot the i’s and t’s and make sure that in space particularly, I think it’s important, women’s football is center-stage right now.
“We want to do it properly in a space where women are treated well, it’s not just [a] focus on male sport, in terms of resources, salaries and that sort of thing – we need to do it properly, but certainly something we’re passionate about, we understand the pressures coming from CAF but we want to make sure our investment in the game is authentic and we will allow young women to realise their full potential.”
There was speculation around interest in securing the franchise of Coal City Wizards which was quickly played down and more recently talk of acquiring JVW FC, an already successful brand in the Hollywoodbets Super League.
However, it’s believed the club are not open to the idea of selling their top-flight status at this point but Motaung hinted they’ve made major inroads over the past 12 months.
“We were close in our process of finalising on taking it forward, we’re still very much in the works and we’ll make announcements when we’re ready.”
