Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr. has laughed off reports that the club have signed Young Africans SC striker Fiston Kalala Mayele.
Mayele, 28, has been subject of reported interest from Chiefs and Orlando Pirates in recent weeks after emerging as one of the most fearsome strikers in East Africa, according to SABC Sport.
The DR Congo international who joined Yanga from AS Vita netted 17 goals in his debut season at the Ligi Kuu Bara champions as they won the league unbeaten.
Reports emerged on Thursday that Amakhosi have won the race to sign the player from Yanga on a three-year deal upon the expiry of his contract, which has been disputed by Motaung Jr, and Yanga Chief Executive Officer Senzo Mbatha on social media.
“They must have done a serious magic to sign him while he is still contracted at,” Mbatha wrote on social media before Motaung Jr. stated, ‘the silly season of reporting continues.’
He went on to add that fake news reporting is ‘sad’ as it ‘it creates false expectations’ amongst the Amakhosi faithful.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Yanga’s Signing Committee Hersi Ally Said also confirmed to FARPost that the player was not for sale and they are aiming to keep him for the CAF Champions League next season.
“We have received enquiries from the Middle East, North Africa and South Africa. But he’s not for sale, we’re going to Champions League, and we will do everything to keep our players,” he confirmed to the publication.
