Moosa & Radioman Lead Spurs To Massive Win

Cape Town Spurs beat Casric Stars at a wet Athlone Stadium on Friday afternoon in their top-of-the-table Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Spurs came into this game having lost their last two matches, which saw them slip from the top position into third.

Those results, and Polokwane City also not getting maximum points, saw Casric move to the top and they went into the game against Spurs unbeaten in their last 16 league fixtures.

It was a chilly and wet Athlone that greeted the teams, and in front of a decent partisan support base, Spurs looked to take control.

The opening goal came in just the sixth minute as Ashley Cupido made a terrific run down the right, beating his defender before delivering a good cross to Therlo Moosa, who steered home his ninth of the season.

Spurs continued to control the possession, and while Cupido continued to look dangerous down the right, they weren’t threatening Kgomotso Baloyi in goal.

Casric’s best opportunities came from set pieces and on the counter, but Lincoln Vyver didn’t have much to do in the first half, and at the break Spurs remained 1-0 up.

Moosa went close with a header from a corner in the first minute of the second half, but it was just off target. At the other end Vyver and Rushwin Dortley combined to clear off the line moments later.

Moosa went close again just past the hour mark, but Baloyi got down well to save the header. Vyver made another good save in the 75th minute to deny substitute Bokamoso Taukobong.

But just three minutes later second-half substitute Boitumelo Radiopane made it 2-0, picking up the ball following a defensive error by Casric before calmly rounding the keeper to score his sixth goal of the season.

Chances continue to fall for both sides but Abbey Sesane shot wide in the 83rd minute with an open goal gaping, before Cohen Stander shot across the face of goal at the other end moments later.

Meanwhile, Polokwane were also in action and the scoreline was 2-1 against La Masia at the Tsakane Stadium, at the final whistle in Cape Town, which would see them move into first spot based on goal difference, with Polokwane, Spurs and Casric all tied on 50 points.

In the other result on Friday, Platinum City Rovers drew 1-1 with Baroka at Olen Park.
