Messi ‘Agrees’ New PSG Deal
Lionel Messi is understood to have agreed to extending his current deal with Paris Saint-Germain, opting against a return to FC Barcelona.
Messi’s current PSG deal runs out in June 2023, leaving him free to sign a pre-contract with a club of his choice from January.
As a consequence, PSG were desperate to extend the Argentine’s deal. According to Fabrizio Romano Messi has now verbally agreed to a contract extension.
However, the details and contract length still need to be ironed out.
FC Barcelona are also believed to be keen on bringing their former superstar back to the Camp Nou, but Messi opted against a return because he’s still upset how president Joan Laporta treated him before his departure.
In addition, Messi wants to win another UEFA Champions League and sees bigger chances at PSG than Barca, while a move to the Major Soccer League has also been put on ice – at least for now.
Messi is currently in his home town Rosario after lifting the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
