Mangopay names Ronen Benchetrit as new CTO

Mangopay, a European payment technology company, has hired Ronen Benchetrit to be its new chief technology officer (CTO).

Following Advent International’s acquisition of Mangopay, Benchetrit has been elevated to the position of chief operating officer, reporting directly to CEO Romain Mazeries.

Benchetrit, a British resident who most recently worked as Chief Technology Officer of Bumble, offers three decades’ worth of knowledge to his new role at Mangopay.

Before that, from 2016 until 2020, he served as Chief Technology Officer of UK upstart Zopa. In addition, he worked as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of online gaming giant PokerStars, where he oversaw all technological operations from the company’s inception as a private entity until its eventual IPO.

Benchetrit’s new role will have him working closely with the company’s management to develop and implement a strategy for utilizing Mangopay’s technological resources to fuel the company’s expansion. Mangopay claims that in the following 24 months, he will increase the size of his staff.

According to Mangopay CEO Mazeries, Benchetrit’s appointment will be “game changing” for the expansion of the business.

Ronen “has been instrumental in the last few months in pushing the company’s global technology strategy by developing a strong engineering culture and by providing technical leadership across all sectors of the business,” he says.

Mangopay, founded in 2013, is a platform that facilitates online payments for businesses operating in the “platform economy.” The company claims to work with over 2,500 different marketplaces and startups.

In his opinion, the platform economy is thriving. Because of the various advantages it provides to both buyers and sellers, platforms have emerged as a key factor in the expansion of online marketplaces.

Despite the difficulty, “mastering payments at scale in this industry is crucial to all platforms.”
