Mammila To Make Shock Chippa Return?

Administrator-turned-coach Morgan Mammila is set for a sensational return to Chippa United ahead of the new season, iDiski Times has learnt.

According to two separate sources, Mammila is going back to Chippa, who he led to a club-record four consecutive wins during the 2022/23 season.

The former football administrator took over at Chippa in September last year after the departure of Daine Klate, following a 1-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns.

He then led the club to four wins on the bounce, the first time this has happened in Chippa history in the PSL.

But results then went south for him afterwards and he was let go by the club in February, when Kurt Lentjies took over.

Mammila won only five of 15 league matches, one in the second half of the season, with Chippa dropping close to the relegation zone.

The former Baroka FC CEO then joined the Dube Birds in March as the technical advisor, following the shock departure of head coach Ernst Middendorp.

Middendorp left Swallows following the humbling 4-1 loss to Orlando Pirates early in March, taking over the post at third division side SV Meppen in Germany.

While Mammila was expected to sit in the stands to oversee things, he sat on the bench to help Musa Nyatama, who welcomed his experience with open arms since he started this season as a player, and led the club to a top eight finish.

The Dube Birds beat Marumo Gallants 2-0 in the last game of the season at Dobsonville Stadium on Saturday to ensure they finish in the top eight with 40 points. Impressively, Swallows was the only club to have won the last four games of the season.

As Swallows beat Gallants, the Limpopo club finished bottom of the table and consequently got relegated the club to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

On the other hand, Chippa United drew 0-0 with Golden Arrows, which saved their DStv Premiership status.
