Mammila Makes Bullish Downs Statement After Pirates Draw

Chippa United coach Morgan Mammila has confidently stated that his team will also give Mamelodi Sundowns a run for their money after holding Orlando Pirates to a 1-1 draw at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Tuesday.

Mammila’s men stopped Pirates’ scoring machine with Bucs loanee Goodman Mosele cancelling out Bandile Shandu’s first-half opener.

Mammila, though, insisted his team had the better chances and would’ve deserved three points.

“Yeah, but let’s be honest, man, I’m not undermining anyone, let’s be honest – who should have scored three clear goals? We gave them a soft goal, of course they also give us a soft goal also,” he told SuperSport TV.

“But, come on, Mulenga, [if he] cuts back it’s a goal. I think it’s three games in a row where we did not even capitalise on clear chances.

“We make it difficult to all teams to play against us, we are a difficult team to beat and one thing we for sure, we’re clear, we’re not here to play games. We’re here to play anyone, pound for pound. My boys are ready.

“And you can see, mentally fit, physically fit, is it’s just a matter of time where we’ll get those one or two goals, where we’ll have a clean sheet. Credit to my boys, I think they stick to the plan. We’ll build from this performance to the next game.”

When asked whether his side are ready to also make defending champions Sundowns stumble, Mammila said he is not afraid of Rulani Mokwena’s team.

“Let them come, let them come, we’re waiting for them,” he responded.

“The fixtures, it’s was sad that we had to play three top teams in a matter of five games.

“They are next, they’re gonna get the same thing. No parking of the bus, it’s pound for pounds. I don’t care who you are, we’re equal here.”
