Malesela On Coach Of The Season Debate

Marumo Gallants coach Dan Malesela has backed his counterparts Rulani Mokwena and Manqoba Mngqithi to be named Coach of the Season.
The coaches contending for the Coach of the Season award are the Mamelodi Sundowns co-coaches as well as Royal AM’s John Maduka and Cape Town City’s Eric Tinkler.
Malesela believes the award should be given to the league winners and not other coaches “who’ve tried”.
“This thing of Coach of Season, sometimes for me it bothers [me]. You win the league, somebody becomes the runner-up and then they become the Coach of the [Season], I don’t understand,” he told reporters, including iDiski Times’ Lethabo Kganyago.
“I think you should give it straight to the winners of the league. It’s the biggest challenge in a season.
“If those people or that person can handle that then why not, let them be the Coach of the Season, let him be the Coach of the Season.
“For us to say ‘Dan Malesela tried so we give him’, I don’t think it’s fair.”
Malesela and his team will face Mokwena and Mngqithi’s DStv Premiership champions in Saturday’s Nedbank Cup final at Royal Bafokeng Stadium.
