Makaab Confirms Talks With Chiefs Over Three Players

Kaizer Chiefs are in talks over the signings of three players, agent Mike Makaab of ProSport International has confirmed.

Chiefs are currently in a major rebuilding phase after releasing 10 players and transfer-listing Anthony Akumu last week while they have already secured the signings of Zitha Macheke, Ashley du Preez and Siyathemba Sithebe ahead of next season.

Braga SC winger Kobamelo Kodisang is one of the major targets but after the LigaPro side activated a two-year option the deal has now gone in a different direction with a transfer fee now needing to be negotiated or a potential loan deal – should the player not be assured of first-team opportunities at the Portuguese top-flight outfit.

The other player is believed to be Kamohelo Mahlatsi from Swallows, while two strikers on the continent are now also being mooted, one of which he’s already engaged Chiefs management over.

According to GhanaSoccerNet, Amakhosi have made contact with Asante Kotoko over 20-year-old Cameroon striker Franck Mbella Etouga, but Makaab did not reveal the identity of the player.

“A lot of the Chiefs supporters have spoken to me about the West African striker, I can tell you that I’m not only in the process of offering a West African striker but also another African striker to Kaizer Chiefs,” Makaab said on Gagasi FM on Monday.

“I’ve opened discussions with Chiefs on both that player and a player at Swallows and a player that’s in Portugal that we’ve all spoken about, so as we talk now there are three players I’m discussing with management of Chiefs.

“We have to hope that we can two at least one or two of those deals that can assist Chiefs if they believe these players can help them in their rebuilding process. One at Swallows one at Braga and one currently one of the top scorers in the continent based in Africa.

“But again, I don’t hold the cheque book, the transfer rights are held by Swallows, Braga and the club in Africa.”

Makaab went on to confirm that he will be ‘setting up a number of meetings’ in Johannesburg this Wednesday and Thursday as the transfer window hits full swing in the off-season.
