New Orlando Pirates captain Innocent Maela took the opportunity of the DStv Premiership launch to thank the club for the opportunity to wear the armband.
Maela was elected captain of Pirates this week, this after the exit of previous captain Happy Jele, as well as Ntsikelelo Nyauza and Thulani Hlatshwayo, who had also worn the armband recently.
Maela, the brother of former Bafana Bafana star Tsepo Masilela, has been at the club for the past five seasons, but came through development at the club. He spent time away at Witbank Spurs and Thanda Royal Zulu, before returning in 2017.
The launch for the new season happened on Thursday, and while brief, Thomas Mlambo had a brief word with the new Bucs skipper.
“I’d also like to take this opportunity and thank the club, the management, the technical team,” Maela said at the launch.
“And also the players for elevating me and putting me in this position.”
