Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Sibusiso Vilakazi has been the subject of speculation, with his future at the DStv Premiership champions yet to be decided.
Despite his contract expiring at the end of last month, the former Bidvest Wits star is back at Chloorkop as the team started pre-season in preparation for the 2022/23 Premiership campaign. According to sources within the club, a new deal is being discussed as the player is one of the most respected players in the squad, given the commitment he has always shown to the club.
“The chairman loves Villa and wants to keep him at the club, but his biggest concern is that he wants to play. Unfortunately, there can’t be guarantees for game time because the squad is big.
“Villa is not a bench warmer; he’s not a player who is comfortable with not playing. He knows there’s a lot he can offer to the game, so a new deal is being discussed, but it’s tricky because the player wants to play regularly, given his age,” the source told FARPost.
He further revealed that there was interest from several PSL teams.
“I can also tell you there are teams in Gauteng enquiring about his services. So, there are 50/50 per cent chances that he will stay or leave the club,” added the source.
With only eight appearances in the DStv Premiership last season, the 2013/14 PSL Footballer of the Season will look for an improved season and get more minutes under his belt in the upcoming season.
It remains to be seen whether the 32-year-old midfielder will fight for his position at Sundowns or seek a fresh start elsewhere.
