This follows an incident at a competition at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday.
The former radio personality is one of the people accused of instigating the looting and violence in Gauteng and KZN last July.
The KZN government released a statement on Sunday alleging that Mchunu verbally abused the Premier.
It goes on to say the attack was not provoked.
There are claims Mchunu went to where Zikalala was seated, and started hurling insults at him.
The Premier was forced to leave the event.
