Komphela Discusses Broos’ Initial Zwane Snub

Mamelodi Sundowns first-team coach Steve Komphela says he couldn’t be prouder of how Themba Zwane responded to being snubbed by the Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos before he made his long-awaited return.

The midfielder when asked about the matter at the time said he respected the coach’s decision.

Zwane found himself back in the squad for the matches against Sierra Leone and Botswana in September, where he scored a brace against the Leone Stars.

Speaking at Puma’s 10-year anniversary celebration of Zwane Komphela said Mshishi’s reaction was just a perfect way to prove a point on the pitch.

“In fact, going in there sulking is another step. You’re even far ahead. One would have thought he would have been sulking and throwing his toys around because he had not been called to the national team,” Komphela said.

“Even me personally, I was getting a feeling like come on, how can you give me such a raw deal. If I were Mshishi I would have had maybe one or two remarks, but the guy remained resolute and discipline. The guy remained consistent.

“All that was going inside his heart, in his head was that I’m going to create this opportunity and when I get it, I’m going to prove a point.

“I’m only going to be a delinquent in the field of play but outside, I’ll allow those who are capable to talk to say as much as they can. But on the park I’m going to do as much as I can and that’s exactly what he did.

“What did he do? The first time he got back he scored, took charge of the national team, imposed himself but still after that he never came out and said you know what, I’m here now. He still kept quiet maintained humility, consistency.”
