Kerr – Everybody’s Got Opinions

Swallows coach’ Dylan Kerr has shared his views on Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos’s comments about South African football

The Bafana coach made headlines this week after he criticised the standard of domestic football during his press conference on Tuesday.

Speaking after helping Swallows retain their DStv Premiership, Kerr said football is all about opinions, but said that there should be communication between Broos and the local coaches.

Kerr said the Belgian has a tough job as national coach, and if he is going to succeed he needs to make the right selections first.

“Look, I mean Steve Komphela mentioned something in the media, about understanding African football, there’s been a lot of negativity of it, there’s been a lot of plus points about it,” Kerr said after Swallows’ victory over Tuks.

“Opinions, everybody’s got opinions, you’ll certainly have opinions, you might think I’m rubbish, I don’t deserve to be here, you might think I’m brilliant, I should be here. It’s all about opinions.

“But from my position, why comment on something when you’re not coming to see the team and the players, you’re not going to talk to myself and my assistant, and my captain, to get to the makeup of these players, like Dillan Solomons, what’s his character like, what’s his attitude like?

“So, as I said, football is all about opinions, you know, and I’m getting told off here for talking too much but football is all about opinions. And I say he is the national team coach, he’s got a very, very tough job ahead of him.

“But if we’re going to succeed, he’s got to pick the right people to do the right job against the opponent to win games and to qualify for the African Cup of Nations.”
