Kaizer Chiefs has been charged by the PSL for misconduct after the club’s fans threw objects at coach Molefi Ntseki following the 1-0 defeat to TS Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday.
The loss to Galaxy was Chiefs’ second successive defeat in the DStv Premiership, as they were beaten 2-1 by Mamelodi Sundowns two weeks ago.
As a result of the poor start to the new season, Chiefs’ faithful hurled abuse and objects, including empty bottles and cans, at Ntseki.
Ntseki had to be escorted out of the pitch to the tunnel by the police as furious fans called for his sacking. This is despite the coach being new on the job, having only coached four matches in the 2023/24 season.
And due to the unruly behaviour of the fans, PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu announced that Chiefs are facing misconduct charges.
“I can confirm that I preferred charges of misconduct against Kaizer Chiefs football club,” said Majavu. on Tuesday evening. “This is as a result of the missile-throwing incident that transpired in a match between themselves and TS Galaxy this past Sunday.
KAIZER Chiefs in hot water
“They have been scheduled to appear before the PSL DC on Tuesday, 29th of August 2023. Once the DC has pronounced its verdict and the matter is finalised, I will then give a further update. Until then, there will be no running commentary on the matter as per usual.”
The attack on the former Bafana Bafana coach, Ntseki, is the second violent incident involving Chiefs fans in recent months.
Last season, Arthur Zwane, who is now an assistant to Ntseki, was also hit with objects. This was after the club lost to SuperSport United at Royal Bafokeng Stadium in May. Zwane was injured in the process.
In the new season, Ntseki is yet to register a victory in the league after three matches played so far. Chiefs played a goalless draw against Chippa United before suffering two back-to-back losses against Sundowns and Galaxy.
However, Ntseki will take comfort in knowing that he registered his first win as Chiefs coach in the 2-1 win over Cape Town City in the MTN8 quarter-finals.
The Glamour Boys will face Sundowns in the two-legged semi-finals of the MTN8. The first leg will take place at FNB Stadium on Saturday, 2nd of September 2013. The return leg will take place at the home of Masandawana in Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday, 23 September 2023.
