Former Al Ahly assistant coach Cavin Johnson has responded to speculation that he could be returning to coaching in the DStv Premiership next season.

Johnson left Ahly at the end of last season and has subsequently been linked with several clubs in the South African top-flight since leaving Pitso Mosimane’s technical team.

More recently he’s been linked with Orlando Pirates and Maritzburg United, who parted with ways with Ernst Middendorp on Monday.

This website understands the likes of Johnson and former Simba SC coach Pablo Franco Martin, Gavin Hunt and Owen da Gama, were among a host of candidates The Team of Choice have been considering over the past week

However, Johnson admits he’s not been contacted over the role but didn’t rule out a return to the dugout completely.

“From the horse’s mouth, possibly but I don’t know, I don’t know anything about it honestly speaking, you’ve phoned me and maybe the agent is busy and he hasn’t phoned me yet, you know what I’m saying, we’ll have to wait and see what happens,” Johnson tells iDiski Times.

“You always keen to come back, it depends on what the conditions are and what the contract looks like, those are the main things that you have to look at anywhere in the world but it depends on what it is.

“You say coming back to South Africa, that’s something, any coach likes to work at home but as I said, it’s about the conditions, expectations… But you have to have a contract in place to work anywhere in the world.”

The 63-year-old who’s known as one of the finest development coaches in South Africa has experience in the top-flight with Platinum Stars, SuperSport United, AmaZulu and Black Leopards over the past decade.
