Kaizer Chiefs’ Marketing and Commercial Director Jessica Motaung has hinted that the Amakhosi could buy the status of a Hollywoodbets Super League team.
Motaung told iDiski Times earlier this year that Chiefs want to start a women’s team before the new season.
Earlier this week, FIFA announced that they will launch a new Women’s Club World Cup, which the winners of the CAF Women’s Champions League will likely qualify for.
Chiefs, though, are far from Africa’s elite but have decided to enter the women’s game, as reiterated by Motaung.
She now gave a further update on Chiefs plans to enter the female game after a press conference hosted by CAF president Patrice Motsepe.
“It’s an exciting time for us to consider, but I think baby steps,” she told local journalists.
“We have a lot to do at domestic level, finalise our team for the league in South Africa and then obviously Champions League and play our role in Africa and in the world.
“But certainly a space that Chiefs is very excited about and passionate about and we’re happy to announce our team in the future soon.”
Motaung also gave further insights into Chiefs plans, saying they are “in negotiations” as they want to have a team when Hollywoodbets Super league kicks off early in 2023.
“Very soon,” she added.
“We are in negotiations and discussions and very excited about what the future holds for us as Kaizer Chiefs.
“If we want to play at Hollywoodbets level we have to (buy a team).

“It would be great to start a home team, but it has implications. We’re excited about what we’re doing and the negotiations and the kind of partnerships that we’re embarking on.”
