‘I want my money’, Makhadzi Demands Payment from Open Mic at Metro Awards Ceremony

Despite the uncertainty surrounding her attendance, Makhadzi appeared at the 2023 Metro FM Music Awards held at the Mbombela Stadium on Saturday. She won the award for Best Female Artist and, during an interview on national television, confirmed that her conflict with Open Mic Productions is ongoing.

Somizi Mhlongo jokingly added fuel to the fire when he interviewed Makhadzi.

Makhadzi has revealed that she is seeking payment for her album sales and streams from Open Mic Productions. She stated that she signed a three-year contract with the company, during which she released four albums, some of which reached platinum and gold status, but has not received any payment for her sales. Despite this, she continued to work without complaint.

In her own words, Makhadzi said:

“I signed with Open Mic only for three years. In this three years I dropped 4 albums. I have never received a cent of my sales. Some of my albums reached platinum some gold. And a lot of hit songs that reached platinum and gold. But I continue to work without complaining.”

Makhadzi announced that she would not be renewing her contract with Open Mic. However, in a Facebook post, she revealed that the company had signed her to a new three-year contract. Makhadzi even shared the contract on her Twitter account. The ongoing conflict between Makhadzi and Open Mic Productions over their contract has become a public spectacle.
