New Cape Town City signing Lorenzo Gordinho has explained he joined the Citizens because it’s a club he has admired from afar.
iDiski Times reported last month that the former Kaizer Chiefs and Bidvest Wits defender was set to join City after returning to South Africa from Denmark, and was announced by City on Tuesday.
Gordinho spent two-and-a-half seasons in Denmark, playing for Viborg from 2020 before joining HB Køge earlier this year. He will be eligible to play for City from the 1 January 2023.
“I’m very happy to be here,” Gordinho told the City media department.

“I’m excited about coming here and about being part of the team and joining the club. I’ve always had a good view, and good reports and good recommendations coming out of the club.
“And it’s something that I was very excited (about), to receive an opportunity to come here.”
Gordinho says that he had always been intrigued by City, and is glad to have got this opportunity in Cape Town.
“So I’m happy, I think the club has obviously taken the league by storm,” Gordinho said.
“And I think that it’s always been a project that I’ve looked from the outside into, and I’ve always wondered how it is to be a part of the club, and I’ve had them in a high regard.
“And it’s something that always looked like a welcoming place to be, an enjoyable place to be, and a good team to be a part of.”
The 28-year-old is looking to establish himself in the team, and help improve the club’s league position.

“I think maybe for the season I just would like to help the team as much as possible,” Gordinho added.
“Try and give as many good consistent performances for the team, to obviously help the team to get into a better position.
“And to enjoy, and hopefully, we as a team can turn around the position the club is in at the moment.”
Cape Town City are currently in 13th place on the log, with 13 points from 12 games, and face Royal AM on 30 December when DStv Premiership football will resume – a game that Gordinho will miss as he is only eligible to play from 1 January.
