Foster On Scoring His First Bafana Goal

Bafana Bafana forward Lyle Foster has opened up on finally scoring his first international goal for South Africa in the 2-1 defeat to Morocco.

The 21-year-old recently gained promotion to the Jupiler Pro League in Belgium after an impressive season with KVC Westerlo.

His fine performances earned him a permanent move to Westerlo, while he also returned to the Bafana fold and is seemingly making the most of his opportunity.

The eighth-minute opener against Morocco was his first international goal at senior level after making his debut in 2018 under Stuart Baxter.

“It was nice to finally score my first goal for Bafana after some time, definitely a special moment for myself and for my family for my community,” he told Bafana’s media team.

“It a bittersweet because we didn’t end up winning the game but all in all very nice moment for me. Would’ve been sweeter if we would have gotten the three points.

“We just have to move on because the line of work that wins in if you stay down for too long you will be kicked again, so we you need to stand up with your chin up and focus on the next game it’s not easy to digest, it’s not easy to forget.

“But I think more than anything you learn more then most when you lose. I think it’s common people saying it more often that’s the only way to look at it.

“Because if you kick yourself and we don’t forgive ourselves as a team for the mistakes that we did then we will never get over it and we will never improve.”

South Africa might have suffered a painful defeat at the hands of the ‘Atlas Lions’ but they still have a huge chance to qualify for the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast, should they win their double header over Liberia in August.

Mathematically six points should be enough take the country to the AFCON.
