Former Orlando Pirates performance analyst coach Darian Wilken has finally reported for work at Maritzburg United.
Wilken been named as the assistant coach for Maritzburg United mentor Fadlu Davids.
He confirmed via his tweeter handle that he has joined head coach Fadlu Davids as an assistant coach.
“I’m happy to share that I have started a new position as First-Team Assistant Coach at Maritzburg United FC,” he tweeted.
Wilken will work hand-in-hand with Davids who has a difficult task of steering the team off the foot of the table.
He said he was determined to help Davids turnaround the performance of the Durban-based DStv Premiership team.
“I am responsible for all matters regarding the performance and development of the first-team alongside the head coach Fadlu Davids,” he added.
Wilken previously worked as head of performance analysis at AmaZulu and Pirates.
Davids returned to the team after spending mere two weeks at Lokomotiv Moscow in Russia.
The former Pirates co-coach Davids rejoined Maritzburg to replace John Maduka who was sacked a few months ago.
The former Bloemfontein Celtic team manager and coach Maduka left Maritzburg rock-bottom on the log table after struggling to get results following his switch from Royal AM.
The Malawian Maduka did not replicate at Maritzburg the performance he demonstrated at Royal AM. Maduka guided Royal AM to third place on the log table last season.
He left the KwaZulu Natal-based outfit Maritzburg with a paltry 13 points from 11 games on the log table.
Davids surely has a mountain to climb to steer the Team of Choice away to safety.
Up the table, the leaders and holders Mamelodi Sundowns are dictating matter, as they have 28 points from 12 matches.
The Team of Choice resume the league assignments when welcoming TS Galaxy on December 30 at Harry Gwala Stadium.
