Folz – I Don’t Think Pirates Are Better Than Us

AmaZulu coach Romain Folz insisted Orlando Pirates were not better than his side although they won the MTN8 trophy at the packed Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday night.

Monnapule Saleng’s acute angle drive free kick beat Veli Mothwa in the 24th minute, with the ball dipping over where the goalkeeper should have done better.

However, Usuthu woke up late in the match and veteran striker Lehlohonolo Majoro saw his header come off the crossbar in the second half, leaving Folz and his technical team left crushed.

Usuthu also created more chances in the second interval when Pirates struggled to come out from their own half.

Based on that, Folz felt the game should have ended in the draw in the regulation time and deservedly go to extra-time.

“It is not a regret [that we woke up late],” said Folz after the game.

“The only thing that annoys me a little bit is the fact that, if it was not a set piece, I don’t think they would have scored against us.

“If you outplayed me, left, right and centre, then you can admit that they are better than you and I don’t think that was the case.

“I’m not taking anything away from them, congratulations. It was one final and it was their win, not us. But I don’t think they are better than us, honestly.”
