Former South Africa junior International defender Walter Maponyane is on the verge of taking his club Star Sign FC to the Limpopo ABC Motsepe League.

The promotion playoffs for the Limpopo ABC Motsepe League, which will see two of the five clubs from the different provincial districts ascend to the Motsepe League, will take place on 2-3 July 2022.

Star Sign was formed as a social club in 2017 until it joined SAFA amateur Leagues in 2020.

Maponyane, who has played for clubs such as Mamelodi Sundowns, Chippa United, Royal Eagles and Polokwane City, works alongside Marcus Legodi while well-travelled Zimbabwean mentor Sheppard Morape is the technical advisor.

“When I started coaching at social games, I never took coaching seriously but then I joined the team (Star Sign). I won more than 12 trophies in local tournaments for them, that’s when I decided that I can take this journey forward and if I can be serious about it, then I can go somewhere,” Maponyane told FARPost.

The provincial playoffs will take place at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

“With our preparations and how we played the whole season, I don’t think we will have a problem (of qualifying). I am confident and always when we play, I am higher so our standards are always high, I don’t see us having any problems getting a promotion.”

Star Sign will represent Capricorn, Fetakgomo United – Sekhukhune, PJ Stars – Waterberg, Star Sign – Capricorn, Tzaneen United- Mopani and United Artists – Vhembe.
