South Africa international midfielder Daylon Claasen has missed out on promotion to the Egyptian Premier League with Wadi Degla.
The promotion winners from Group B in the second tier was confirmed with a game to go as ZED FC beat them 3-1 in an all-or-nothing clash at the Cairo International Stadium.
It marks a historic first-ever promotion to the top flight for the club who went eight points clear of the ambitious outfit that’s affiliated Belgian club Lierse and Premier League side Arsenal.
Claasen, who represented their parent club Lierse, joined the side after leaving Maritzburg United at the end of last season and was a regular fixture in the starting line-up this past season.
Degla were favourites for promotion after their relegation from the top-flight but with two wins in their last five games, they stumbled at the final hurdle.
