Doctor Compares Lepasa To Bafana Legends

Legendary Kaizer Chiefs and South Africa midfielder, Doctor Khumalo has praised Zakhele Lepasa after his display against Morocco, comparing him to Bafana Bafana legends Mark Williams and Shaun Bartlett.

Lepasa netted Bafana’s second goals and was a danger man throughout the game, as South Africa defeated Morocco to go atop of Group K in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Despite missing a good chance before the break, Lepasa received some high laurels from Khumalo after the match.

“I understand we’re not happy with some moments about Lepasa, but I saw a different individual,” he said on SABC Sport.

“He might not have been the best player in terms of positioning himself but his presence made for it easier for the right-hand side to function because he was always within the penalty area whereby the central defenders couldn’t stretch, because if they leave him… Hence that’s probably the reason why he scored.

“But the beauty of the second half, South Africa loaded the right-hand side. Let’s look at how many sides we missed, we created them on the right-hand side, we missed them on the left.”

Khumalo also insisted that Lepasa has traits of former Bafana strikers Williams and Bartlett.

“You have a player that is giving you what we had years back, your Mark Williams, your Shaun Bartlett,” he added.

“Now this is a coaching point, you don’t let go of such players. Lepasa gave us options. He gets himself in the right positions in order for him to execute.”

Lepasa has now scored three goals and set up two more in just five appearances under Broos.
