Desiree Ellis announces Banyana squad for Turkish Women’s Cup |

Banyana Banyana head coach Desiree Ellis has announced her squad that will participate in the Turkish Women’s Cup. 

The tournament is to set to start on 13 – 26 February, 2023. 

South Africa are drawn alongside the hosts Turkey, Uzbekistan and Venezuela.

WHEN WILL BANYANA PLAY THEIR GAMES

Ellis’ charges will face Turkey on Wednesday 15 February, then take on Uzbekistan on 18 February and finally Venezuela on 21 February, 2023. 

Banyana will play all their games at the Gold City Sport Complex.

The competition is part of the Banyana’s FIFA Women’s World Cup to be hosted by New Zealand and Australia from 20 July to 20 August 2023.

The African champions booked their World Cup tickets after winning the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations [WAFCON] last year when they clinched the WAFCON title for the first time ever held in Morocco.

The three-time CAF Women’s Coach of the Year’s squad is mostly made of the players who the WAFCON, as she wants to keep the consistency within the team.

Ellis revealed how excited she is with the quality of their opponents at the tournament and reckons that they will give her side the test that they would need before the World Cup. 

And SAFA continue to provide Ellis all the necessary support for the
team in their preparations of the global football showpiece.

BANYANA FULL SQUAD 

Goalkeepers: Andile Dlamini, Kaylin Swart, Regirl Ngobeni, Katlego Moletsane

Defenders: Asanda Hadebe, Karabo Dlamini, Fikile Magama

Faith Owusu, Tiisetso Makhubela, Noko Matlou, Bambanani Mbane, Bongeka Gamede. 

Midfielders: Refiloe Jane, Sibulele Holweni, Linda Motlhalo, Kholosa Biyana, Thalea Smidt, Robyn Moodaly, Amogelang Motau

Forwards: Noxolo Cesane, Gabriela Salgado, Jermaine Seoposenwe, Melinda Kgadiete, Nthabiseng Majiya, Hildah Magaia, Lelona Daweti.
