Kaizer Chiefs have won the DStv Diski Shield final, beating Stellenbosch FC 2-0 at Mpumalanga Stadium in Hammarsdale, KwaZulu-Natal.

Amakhosi had booked their spot in the final after beating Mamelodi Sundowns last week, while Stellenbosch had beaten Chippa United.

On Saturday, both teams met in this year’s Diski Shield final, with the score remaining deadlocked in the first 45 minutes, despite Stellenbosch having the better chances.

Chiefs opened the scoring in the 58th minute when Mfundo Vilakazi finished off a quick counter via Mduduzi Shabalala and Wandile Duba with a superb shot.

Shabalala made it 2-0 in the 83rd minute, converting a rebound from the left post. The two goals earned the club their second Diski Shield title after already lifting the trophy in 2018 under then coach Arthur Zwane.

Earlier on Saturday, Sundowns had beaten Chippa United 4-2 on penalties to secure the third spot after the game had ended 2-2 inside the 90 minutes.

The winners will receive R200 000, runners-up will walk away with R150 000 and the third-placed team pockets R100 000 for their chosen charity.

Amakhosi have chosen local school Naturena Primary as their beneficiary as the competition requires that the winnings be donated to charity.
