Chiefs To Assess Three Strikers

Kaizer Chiefs are currently assessing three strikers as they look to bolster their attacking options ahead of the 2022/23 season.

After releasing Samir Nurkovic, Lazalous Kambole and Leonardo Castro, the club only have new signing Ashley du Preez, who was awarded the number nine shirt on Friday, as a recognised striker.

While Khama Billiat could potentially fulfil the role as a false nine, Amakhosi have been active in their pursuit of a reliable goalscorer for head coach Arthur Zwane.

The likes of Victor Letsoalo and Bienvenu Eva Nga were initially considered, with Royal AM initially pricing the former out of a move, while the latter was not deemed a player that could suit the style play and eventually joined rivals Orlando Pirates.

Young Africans SC striker Fiston Mayele was a name also bandied about but Chiefs didn’t make an official move for the DR Congo international.

However, Burundi international Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana, who ironically scored a goal in FNB Stadium for his country in a 1-1 draw against Namibia last month in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier has joined the camp for pre-season to be assessed by the technical team along with TS Galaxy’s Wayde Lekay, SABC Sport report.

The public broadcaster also confirmed that Sierra Leone striker Musa Kamara, 21, is another that is due to arrive in the country imminently as they look towards landing their latest forward.

Kamara is held in high regard since making his debut for the Lone Stars at the age of 19 and scored his first international goal at AFCON 2021 against the Ivory Coast in the group stages.

But the towering duo is not the only ones that have caught the eye of the Soweto giants, as iDiski Times has learnt that MTN Elite One top scorer Enow Nkembe has also landed on their radar after smashing 21 goals and registering nine assists in 20 games in the Cameroon top-flight last season.

However, Chiefs have yet to make an official move for the AS Fortuna du Mfou star as they look to have a more comprehensive report on the 24-year-old that’s plied his trade in the USA and Albania before his impressive season in his home country.
